Introduction
The Angel Inn is a 17th Century former coaching inn within 20 miles of Norwich, Bury St. Edmunds, Thetford & Wymondham and has been run over the years by three different generations of the same family. Currently run by the great-grandson this family public house offers a great wealth of charm and character with five guest ales on handpump and a mild with 100 different whiskies available.
Situated within the Brecks of Norfolk the Angel is close to Snetterton racing circuit, The English Whisky distillery and set on Thetford forest edge, close to several country parks like High Lodge and the Great Eastern Pingo trail. Secure cycle storage is offered and the Angel can cater for packed lunches and picnics on request.

The main train station is 5 minutes away by car at Harling Road.
There are plenty of local taxis and telephone numbers for these are available on request.
Arrival and car parking facilities
At the entrance of the Angel Inn is an open plan car-park with 24 hour access. There are no marked parking bays but there is ample parking with access to a further car park through the Inn’s lawned areas. There is also parking across the road from the Angel. All car park surfaces are level flat tarmacadam with the overspill parking area being part shingle and part lawned.
There is a substantial constructed walled patio area with ramp access to one side of the Angel’s entrance door. The patio area is also a seating and dining area with a roofed gazebo for wet weather sheltering.
A post-box is opposite the Angel. The local village of East Harling with a newspaper shop, doctor’s surgery, chemist and a post-office is a 10 minute drive away.
Arrivals for the accommodation are welcomed at anytime between 2 pm and 11 pm and prior notice of arrivals after 11 pm would be appreciated.
We can assist guests with their luggage.
Main entrance reception and side entrance
The side entrance is accessed from the patio area and beside the car parking area. The side entrance door has a small 2inch, 5cms threshold and an opening of 84cm width. Once opened there is a 9cm drop into a porch area followed by an inner doorway of 77cm width. This door opens to the bar area and a step downwards of 5cm high with a width of 33cm.
There is a tiled floor in the bar area with seating provided and tables of 71cm high.
The reception area is at the bar directly in front of the side doors and the staff here will be pleased to greet you and show you to your room.
Eating Areas: The Dining Room, The Bar, Lounge area and Breakfast Room.
All these areas are at ground floor level.
Breakfast is served in the Breakfast room at ground level. Bookings for the other dining areas can be taken at point of booking your room and are preferable so as to enable your required choice of dining times and table numbers.
Basic take-away fare is available and can be useful to campers but this is offered during usual dining hours only.
Allergy information is available upon request. Please note: We are unable to guarantee that any dish is 100% free of any trace of nuts as they are used in our kitchen. As we cook our food to order, there may be a delay during busy periods.
Public Areas - W.C.
All bedrooms are en suite.
There are also public toilets available at ground level with two individual toilets and a mirrored vanity area for the ladies.
The ladies cloakroom also contains a pull down baby-changing unit.
The gents cloakroom contains a separate w.c. and a room of urinals.
All separate toilets have wall mounted grab rails provided.
Public areas- general [internal]
Corridors leading to the breakfast room are light in colour and well lit.
The flooring on all corridors is quarry tiles with the staircases and landings to the bedrooms being carpeted.
The corridors are narrowest at the doorways of 66cm. Following down the stairs to access the Breakfast room there is a 20cm high step at the first doorway of 180cm height followed by a fire-door of 69cm width and 178cm height. After the fire-door is a downwards step of 17cm followed by another fire-door of the previous fire-door dimensions.
The dining tables are 71cms high and enable wheelchairs to be seated underneath.
Caravan site and Camping
The Angel Inn has a touring park situated across the road from the Inn and is ideally situated for visiting the Brecks, Snetterton racetrack, the local English whisky distillery, Norwich city or one of the many local market towns or Norfolk sights.
The touring park with excellent rural views is open from March to October with full shower and toilet facilities.
There are electric hook ups available for caravans, motor homes or tents which we would advise booking for in advance on 01953 717963. There also non electric pitches available on arrival and these also accommodate pup tents, dogs, gazebos and awnings.
Pitches are available from 12 noon on day of arrival and are to be vacated by 11a.m. on day of departure
Laundry
Not available but the nearest town of Attleborough provides excellent launderette facilities.
Leisure Facilities (indoor)
The bar area of the Angel pub games such as cards and dice which are available on request. The lounge area with its open log fire in winter provides comfortable seating and local magazines to peruse.
Outdoor Facilities
A patio area provides outdoor dining and seating coupled with a lawned area and a separate childrens's play area. This accommodates children between the ages of 4 to 12 years. Children must be supervised at all times. For those with dogs the outdoor dining is ideal. We provide water at the bar for pets in the garden.
Conference & Meeting rooms, Banqueting, Clubs, Entertainment
Conference and meeting areas for clubs, families etc. are available for hire and there are many banqueting possibilities with a maximum of 24 people in one room.

Bedrooms
At the Angel Inn there are five bedrooms all are en-suite and all are on the first floor.
The rooms all offer television with full tea and coffee making facilities.
Wireless broadband is available throughout the Angel. The key to the broadband connection is available at the bar and will also be found in your hotel folder in your room. All rooms are equipped with hairdryers and hair and body wash.
Each bedroom is fire alarmed.
Access to the bedrooms
To gain access to the landing that feeds all the bedrooms you would firstly access the building from outside at the Angel's lounge entrance front door of 81cms width then through the lounge door of 73cms width with a threshold height of 3cms.
Following this, access is through another door of 66cms width and 193cms height leading to a staircase with risers of 16cms.
There is a width of stair of 115cms at the bottom of the staircase with a turn owing to the nature of the building towards the top of the last five stairs leading to a doorway of 88cms width and 166cms height.
The stairway and the landing along with the bedrooms all have fitted carpeting throughout.
ROOM 2
Room 2 is off to the left from the stairwell with a slight gradual slope leading to the doorway of 71cms in width and 198cms in height with a small threshold height of 8cms. Room 2 is a twin aspect light bedroom with twin beds and a small entrance lobby with inward opening doors of 71cms width.
This room can be made into a family room containing three beds if required.
The bedroom is of dimensions of 400cms by 460cms with divans both of 58cms height.
Within the entrance lobby is a second inward opening doorway of 66cms leading to a tiled floor shower-room and w.c.
The shower cubicle has a step/edge of 22cms in height. There is a vanity unit of 90 by 60 cms with an inset basin of 91cms in height with ample storage below.
The toilet has left side transfer with 60cms free space and the toilet is 43cms high.
ROOM 4
Along the landing to the right a short way along there is an 11cms step down followed by a 9cm step up and then room 4 is located on the left of this landing.
Room 4 is a twin bedded room of window aspect over the parking and lawned areas with beds both of 57cms height. This room can also be made into a double.There is an inward opening entrance door of 70cms width. The room is of dimensions 317cms by 380cms and contains a built in wardrobe beside an open but not in use Victorian ducks-nest fireplace. There is an alcove vanity area with a well lit 97cms square mirror. There is fitted short pile carpet throughout this bedroom. An upright chair is provided in the room. A doorway off the bedroom of 66cms width leads through to the bathroom with w.c. Within the bathroom is a sink on a pedestal of 80cms height and a bath of 52cms in height with an attached grab-rail and a shower and attachment placed on the wall at the end of the bath. The toilet is 42cms high with a frontal transfer and access. Free floor space within the bathroom is 170cms by 73cms.
ROOM 5
Continuing along the carpeted landing and located to the right before a fire-door is room 5 with an inward opening door of 80cms width into a room of 374cms by 227cms. Room 5 contains a double divan of 62cms in height together with an upright chair and two three drawer bedside cabinets.
There is a fitted wardrobe and a beverage area with a vanity mirror above of 40 by 46cms.
An inward opening door of 66cms leads into the shower room and w.c. with the shower tray 29cms in height.
Transfer from the w.c. of 46cms would be to the left and frontal.
There is a built in vanity unit with a large surrounding mirrored area and pleasant tiling throughout the shower room together with a shaver socket.
ROOM 6
Along the landing through the fire door of 197cms by 82cms the landing turns to the left and further along on the right is room 6.
A pleasantly decorated twin bedded room of 304cms by 445cms with an inward opening door of 74cms width.
Each divan in room 6 is 63cms high and the room contains a free-standing wardrobe, a dressing table with storage, large mirror above and stool.
A folding luggage rack is provided.
The room is carpeted throughout apart from the tiled bathroom accessed from the bedroom through a 74cms doorway.
The bathroom of 100cms by 310cms contains a sink within a vanity unit of 88cms height with under storage.
There is a bath of 116cms in length and 57cms in height with a moulded seat within the bath at one end and an overhead shower at the other end.
The toilet is 46cms high and transfer is from either side.
ROOM 7
On the landing to the left of room 6 is room 7 with an inward opening doorway of 82cms width.
Room 7 is a twin bedded room of dimensions of 418cms by 334cms with divans of 60cms in height.
This can be a family room with 3 beds in if required. This room can also be made into a double upon request.
The carpeted room contains a beverage making area with mirror of 66cms by 99cms above and a stool below.
A folding luggage rack is provided together with a built-in wardrobe and two three-drawer bedside cabinets.
From the bedroom a door of 74cms wide leads to a tiled floor bathroom with a 46cms high w.c. with front transfer.
The bathroom is 300cms by 93cms of floor area with a sink within a storage vanity unit topped with a surrounding mirror of 107cms by 80cms.
Additional Information
Mobile phone reception is generally good.
We are able to use all front and back doors if there is a need for evacuation.
There is a fire alarm that sounds quite loudly throughout the Inn and in case of fire we evacuate onto the back lawned area at the fire assembly point.
If you require more assistance for evacuating then please notify us on arrival and we will be happy to ensure that you are evacuated safely e.g. hearing impediment.
During your stay at the Angel please note that there are details of all the fire evacuation procedures from each room on the back of each entrance door.
We operate a no-smoking policy throughout the Angel Inn however smoking is allowed outside and pleasant seating and bins have been provided to accommodate this.
Families are very welcome.
